Synopsis

The story of Oscar Wilde, genius, poet, playwright and the First Modern Man.

In his heyday, Oscar Wilde’s wit, flamboyance and creative genius were widely renowned and he was celebrated as a literary genius. But his private life flew increasingly in the face of the decidedly anti-homosexual conventions of late Victorian society. WILDE focuses on Oscar’s fall from grace, charting his obsessive love for Lord Alfred Douglas, nicknamed “Bosie”, which consumed and ultimately destroyed him.

"Big, bold and burnished - WILDE is the full monty on Oscar. Brian Gilbert brings to the picture visual fluency, deep-seated emotion and first-rate playing from his cast" - Variety

"Likely to remain the definitive screen treatment of Oscar Wilde for years to come" - The Los Angeles Times
